Thorn Shellactive, area around self

Thorn Predator raises a shell of spikes that reflects and negates incoming damage and stuns the attacker for 1.5 / 2 / 3 s, with each enemy affected only once. The shell lasts 4 / 5 / 6 s on a 6 s cooldown.

Role: a tanky melee assassin that jumps into the enemy back line and shuts several units down at once while turning their damage back on them. A strong mid- to late-game pick against squishy ranged carries and a piece of the Assassin, Egersis and Insectoid synergies.

Synergies

Insectoid · species
Synergy effect: (2) Death rattle: when there are allied duplicates on the field and an allied non-Insectoid piece dies, 1 Insectoid Heir is generated, based on the highest cost among the living duplicates, lasting 10–20 seconds. (4) Death rattle: when there are allied duplicates on the field and an allied Insectoid piece dies, 1 Insectoid Heir is generated, based on the highest cost +1 among the living duplicates, lasting 10–20 seconds. An Insectoid Heir is a random Insectoid piece; its attack is 100% of the corresponding piece, it takes 100% damage and has no synergy bonuses. Several triggers can stack.
How to play
Insectoid is a summoning synergy that turns losses into reinforcements: a piece's death spawns a temporary Heir as long as identical heroes stand on the board. (2) is reached with mid-cost heroes in the mid game and (4) with the expensive ones closer to the end, and both thresholds stack, giving heirs for regular pieces and for the Insectoids themselves. The synergy works best in rosters with duplicates and a sturdy front line so the heirs get to use their time.
Lord of SandPoisonous WormSpider Queen
Egersis · species
Synergy effect: (3) All non-Egersis pieces on both sides receive the Plague effect: starting health −10%. (6) All non-Egersis pieces on both sides receive the Plague effect: starting health −45%. (9) All non-Egersis pieces on both sides receive the Plague effect: starting health −45%, and infected pieces additionally lose 5% of max health every 2 seconds (the reduction limit is calculated from starting health). Egersis pieces do not appear in the piece shop at the start of the game. They can only be obtained by equipping the "Egersis Pact" gear or through the "Gamble Box" sacred relic.
How to play
Egersis weakens everyone who is not Egersis, including your own pieces, so the synergy is built as a core rather than an add-on. (3) already trims the enemy's health, (6) makes the Plague genuinely painful, and (9) adds constant health loss throughout the fight. There are many heroes at different costs, but because of the special way they are obtained, the build depends on whether the right gear or relic comes your way.

Assassin · class
Synergy effect: (3) Allied Assassins have a 20% chance to deal 300% damage with their basic attacks. (6) Allied Assassins have a 20% chance to deal 400% damage with their basic attacks. (9) After an allied Assassin kills a target, it gains one extra jump and its next attack is a guaranteed critical hit. Class trait: at the start of the battle, Assassins jump into the enemy back line and land a guaranteed critical hit with their first basic attack; the crit multiplier is taken from the highest active synergy tier. The effects of multiple synergy tiers stack: the critical chance is rolled for each tier, while the damage uses the highest multiplier.
How to play
Assassins are a back-line damage class: at the start of the battle they jump onto the enemy pieces in the back and land a guaranteed critical hit, and from (3) their regular attacks crit often. (6) raises the multiplier noticeably, and (9) grants extra jumps and guaranteed crits after every kill, turning Assassins into a chain-killing machine. The class is wide: cheap heroes let you reach (3) early, but the strongest Assassins are expensive, so (6) and especially (9) belong to the mid and late game. Assassins work best when someone else holds the front while they finish off vulnerable mages and archers.

Lore

hero story

I

On the edge of the Marten region in the Third Age, a noisy tavern is packed with guests, all coming for the adventurer's tales. Who could have thought that the surviving adventurers' desert experience would go far beyond the thrill-seeking needs of their audience? Like a thorn buried deep in the flesh, when those audiences sobered up from their hangovers, they were still able to experience the desperation and helplessness in a way that even alcohol could not numb the maddening fear. The story that the adventurer told could be traced back to distant classical times. It is said that the Marten Desert used to be a thorny, pristine woodland until a war turned it into a desert, and after that an Insectoid plague occurred - adding an air of danger to the barren silent land. Any creature entering the desert for the first time, even if it can withstand the unearthly drought and heat, may not survive the predators that hide beneath the sand.

II

According to the adventurers, a plant with sharp spines grows in the vast sand. In a desert where resources are scarce, its leaves and fruits are a delicacy and a source of food for many desert animals. Facing this dangerous and forbidding area, the brave team of adventurers did not set out to feed themselves, they clearly had bigger goals in mind - a huge reward and a glorious hunting experience to add to their expedition. With plenty of supplies and determination, they explored the desert on foot for three days and nights. They searched almost every spiky desert plant, and finally found their target hiding next to an unusual thorn. Excited by this, everyone was eager to awaken the worm - the adventurers rushed in, wielding their weapons as if it were not an extremely dangerous monster, but a pile of golden treasure.
